Pianist Anna Vavilova, one of Vancouver’s most respected and distinguished solo and collaborative artists, was born and grew up in Daugavpils, Latvia, where she began her musical education with G.Starozicka. For advanced studies at Daugavpils Music College her principal teachers were A. Zelc and L. Lebedeva. Anna entered college at the age of 16 and by the age of 18 she was unanimously considered the best pianist in junior college, winning school competitions 3 years in a row.
Ms. Vavilova was chosen to represent her district for provincial competitions on numerous occasions and traveled to country capital Riga, as a part of faculty & senior students group for a showcase performance at Emils Darzins Music School , a place for the musically gifted children. During her early college years Anna Vavilova was studying composition and focusing on performing contemporary Latvian compositions for solo piano and chamber works. At that time Ms. Vavilova composed a few song cycles based on poetry of D. Avotina and E. Rainis, as well as many miniatures for piano and chamber music.
Since coming to Canada in 1997, Anna graduated from Kwantlen University College ( prof. Jane Hayes) and University of British Columbia (prof. Kum Sing Lee, Dr. Sara Davis – Buechner, Dr. Henri-Paul Sicsic, prof. Rena Sharon). Ms. Vavilova has taken master classes from world renowned musicians: E. Skovorodnikov (Canada),V. Monastyrski (Israel), Aquiles Delle Vigne (Argentina), Martha Noguera (Argentina) and attended piano summer festivals in US, France and Russia. In 2002 Anna appeared with Vancouver Island Symphony (Marlin Wolfe, conductor). In 2005 Anna Vavilova was a finalist at Pacific Spotlight Competition on CBC Radio Two, and has been awarded Vancouver Foundation Scholarship (2005) and BC Arts Council Scholarship (2006) to continue her Graduate Studies.
While pursuing full time her graduate studies in UBC as a Piano Performance major Anna Vavilova, founded and managed the music society “Music Encore Concert Society”, which became widely popular in Richmond, BC. Anna Vavilova appears regularly in concerts as a soloist and a chamber musician. Among the most beloved local venues are: Chan Centre (UBC), Steinway Hall (Vancouver, Tom Lee Music), Out for Lunch (Vancouver), Silk Purse Gallery (West Vancouver), Alliance Frances (Vancouver) and many others.
